Notes: Professional baseball has been played on this site at the confluence of the Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers, in downtown Des Moines for over half a century. The current stadium replaced the aging Pioneer Memorial Stadium in the early 1990s. Located across the river from the Iowa State Capitol building, floodwaters forced the I-Cubs out during Great Flood of 1993. Opened as Sec Taylor Stadium, long-time Des Moines Register sports editor, the naming rights were sold to Principal Financial Group, leading global financial company, in 2004. The playing field is still named in honor of Taylor. The frequent renovations have kept the ballpark, as it enters its third decade, on par with the newer stadiums.
