Bowen Field

Bluefield, West Virginia

Bowen Field, Bluefield, West Virginia

Team: Bluefield Orioles

Affiliate: Baltimore Orioles

Year Opened: 1975

Seating Capacity: 2,250

Dimensions:  LF 335
CF 365
RF 335

Notable Former Players: Armando Benitez, Storm Davis, David Dellucci, Sidney Ponson, Cal Ripken, Jr. and Gregg Zaun.

Notes: Known as the ballpark with the West Virginia address and the Virginia telephone number, it was built to replace the original wooden Bowen Field ballpark (circa 1939), which burned to the ground after the 1974 season. Located in the twin cities of Bluefield, Virginia and West Virginia's City Park, it is home to both an Appy League team and the local Bluefield College team.  The grandstands seating is one of the more recent upgrades, castoffs from an Anaheim Stadium renovation.  The grandstands were completed without seating, as the funds ran low, during construction.  During the interim seasons, fans would bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the game from the hillside.
