Former Notable Players: Don Baylor, Cal Eldred, Bobby Grich, Dave Henderson, Ben Sheets and Gary Sheffield. Notes: Located in the city of Stockton's Oak Park, the grounds have hosted organized baseball since the 1890's. The first ball park, Oak Park Baseball Field, was built in 1927. Being constructed of wood, it burned twice before the current grandstand was built in 1953. Since then it has undergone two major renovations (1982 and 2002) to keep the facility up to date. In 1950, the city council honored local baseball hero Billy Hebert, who was killed in World War II, by naming the ball park after him. In 2005 the California League franchise moved to new downtown riverfront stadium, Stockton Ballpark, leaving Oak Park to the college and high school games. |
