Former Notable Players: Mike Liberthal, Scott Rolen, and Jimmy Rollins. Notes: Originally built in the 1930s by team owner Jim English, English Field was home to professional baseball for many decades in this Southwest Virginia industrial city. With financial help from the Hooker Furniture, the ballpark was upgraded and modernized for Appalachian League play in the 1980s. The last Appy League team left for a new facility in Greeneville, Tennessee after the 2003 season. Currently the park is home to a Coastal Plain League team and hosts area colleges and youth baseball leagues. |
