The park is named for the former major league pitcher and Clearwater city commissioner who was instrumental is getting the stadium built. It was the site of a 1965 Rolling Stones concert that ended after four songs when the crowd charged the stage. With the 2004 season, Phillies spring training games and the FSL games were moved to Bright House Field at the Clearwater Community Sports Complex just several miles away. Much of the stadium was demolished in 2007, however the playing field and some of the stands are still used for collegiate and amateur competition. |
