Notes: Built on the site of the wooden El Toro Park, which burned to the ground, this concrete and steel stadium was built for $100,000 in 1939-40. It served as the location for the 1988 movie Bull Durham, starring Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. It was the host of teams in both the Piedmont League and Carolina League until it gave way to the $ 16.1 million downtown Durham Bulls Athletic Park in 1995. The Ellerbe Creek flows under the ball park. After a $5.5 million dollar renovation the ballpark reopened as a training facility for Minor League Baseball in 2009, while continuing to host college and amateur baseball. In 2010 the Durham Bulls returned for an annual International League game at the historic stadium.
