Former Notable Players: Jeremy Hellickson, Aubrey Huff, Andruw Jones, Evan Longoria, Randy Winn, and Delmon Young. Notes: It was opened in 1995 as the heir to the venerable Durham Athletic Park for Carolina League play. But it was later built out to its current configuration in 1998 for International League competition. The park was designed by Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum to fit with the architecture of the former Lucky Strike cigarette factory, now the American Tobacco Campus. Atop the left field Blue Monster wall is a replica of the bull billboard made famous in the move Bull Durham. The original prop is hanging in the concourse of the stadium. The parent company of the franchise and regional broadcast outlet has its offices overlooking the right field wall. In 2007 the playing field was dubbed Goodmon Field, in honor of Jim Goodmon. Goodmon, the head of Capitol Broadcasting and Bulls' owner, was instrumental in getting the new stadium built. |
