Sitting next to the Dan River, American Legion Memorial Post 325 Field is nested in among the charming scenery of Danville’s Dan Daniel Memorial Park.
The field is set against the backdrop of a small tree-covered hill that is right across the home plate. Built in 1993, the ballpark was initially home to the local Atlanta Braves affiliates.
From its opening to 2020, it hosted the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League.
As a part of the 2021 Minor League reorganization, the Appalachian League was converted to a Summer Collegiate Baseball League and the Braves were replaced by a new franchise – the Otterbots.
The field is also used by athletes from George Washington High School, Danville Community College, and American Legion Post 325 to which the field owes its name.
The seating capacity of the American Legion Memorial Post 325 Field is 2,588. When it was opened, the seating areas were uncovered, which was often an issue during the hot Virginia summer.
Fortunately, the field now features a roof over a three-part grandstand, providing shade to spectators. Starting from the main grandstand, a couple of bleachers are extending down each baseline.
Throughout its history, American Legion Field hosted several major events.
These included the 2002 American Legion Baseball World Series and 2001 and 2008 Big South Conference Baseball Tournaments.
