Former Notable Players: Notes: Baseball has been played along the banks of the Chattahoochee River, in Columbus, since 1909. The original Golden Park was built in 1926 and the current facility was constructed after the 1994 season when it was chosen as the softball host site for the 1996 Olympic Games. The ballpark was dedicated in 1926 as Golden Park, after T.E. Golden, who spearheaded the drive for the town's first South Atlantic League team.
