The stadium was designed by the noted firm of Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum to replace the historic MacArthur Stadium, which stood where the first base side parking is today. The outfield light towers were relocated from MacArthur Stadium. The #9 on the outfield fence is the retired number of Hank Sauer, the only number retired in franchise history.
