Former Notable Players: John Elway, Al Leiter, Don Mattingly, Amos Otis, Jorge Posada, and Bernie Williams. Notes: Organized baseball has been played in Neahwa Park for most of the 20th Century. This diamond opened in 1940 as Neahwa Park Field. It was renovated and renamed Damaschke Field, in 1968, after Ernest "Dutch" Damaschke, the long-time chairman of the Oneonta Parks & Recreation Commission. It was the last stadium in affliated minor league baseball not sell to alcoholic beverages. The NY-Penn League franchise left Oneonta for Norwich, Connecticut beginning with the 2010 season. A summer college team soon moved in as a variety of improvements were undertaken on the facility. |
