World War Memorial Stadium – Greensboro, North Carolina

One of the oldest ballparks still in use, World War Memorial Stadium in Greensboro, North Carolina, was designed in 1926 and build in 1928.

It was one of the first stadiums in the country with night lights, before any of the Major League ballparks.

Commonly known only as War Memorial Stadium, the ballpark was named to honor residents of Guilford County who lost their lives in World War I.

The field is conveniently located near the North Carolina A&T University campus. Currently, it’s hosts two college baseball teams.

The stadium is home to the Aggies, NC A&T baseball team as well as Greensboro College Pride.

In previous years, it was also the base for several Minor League teams until the new First Horizon Park opened in 2005.

Originally, War Memorial Stadium was built as a football field with a horseshoe configuration and featured a running track.

A&T football team even played their games here until 2004. The current capacity is 7,500 with most of the seats situated along the left field line.

The covered grandstand is situated behind the home plate. A special attraction is a stream that flows beneath the right field line.

The notable triple-arched entrance was featured in the 1988 classic movie, “Bull Durham”.
